Go climb a skull

Skull Rock - 1.7 mile loop

This nature trail begins at the Jumbo Rocks campground and features a rock formation that resembles a skull. The skull is viewable from the road. Also in the nearby vicinity of Skull Rock is Split Rock, a gigantic boulder that has a crack splitting it in two.

It is a naturally created rock, and it marks the entry to Skull Rock Nature Trail. This giant, half-sunken head is a stand-out feature in a land of stand-out features at Joshua Tree National Park.

Staying in Joshua Tree

There is no lodging in the Joshua Tree National Park, though camp sites are available.

CAMP SITES

There are several campgrounds within the park that cost $5.00 a day for up to six people per site. Each campground has its own feel. Climbers choose to frequent the Hidden Valley and the Ryan campgrounds. While Jumbo Rocks tends to be more of an RV and family site. There are no facilities within the park so be sure to bring lots of water, food and fire wood for your stay.

Joshua Tree National Park includes nine campgrounds with tables, fireplaces, and toilets; all are open on a year-round basis. Campground reservations for Black Rock, Indian Cove, or Sheep Pass can be made online or by calling 800-365-CAMP.

TIPS

Coyote Corner is a small shop on the corner of the West entrance to the the Park in the town of Joshua Tree. They offer showers and drinking water as well as other “supplies”. A must see for the complete Joshua Tree experience…

Lodging:

There is no visitor lodging available inside Joshua Tree National Park. Motels, stores, and restaurants are located in nearby towns.
