What is TOEFL iBT?

TOEFL iBT Test is the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language. The test has four sections covering the language skills of reading, listening, speaking, and writing. It is approximately 4 hours long, with an obligatory 10-minute break after the Listening section.


Features of the new TOEFL Internet-based Test:

  1. Note taking is allowed throughout the test.
  2. Speaking skills are evaluated. The Speaking section includes independent and integrated tasks.
  3. Some questions involve integrated skills, such as reading-listening-speaking.
  4. Knowledge of grammar is not tested separately but is tested indirectly in all sections of the test.
  5. There is no longer a Structure section.
  6. Lectures and conversations in the Listening section are longer.
  7. The speech in the listening material sounds more natural. Also, there are new questions that measure understanding of a speaker's attitude, degree of certainty, and purpose.
  8. The Reading section has new questions that ask test takers to categorize information and fill in a chart or complete a summary.
  9. The Writing section requires typing. There is an integrated task and an independent task.


TOEFL iBT Test is approximately 4 hours long

Scoring On The TOEFL iBT Test - The TOEFL score report will show:

  1. separate score of 0 to 30 for each of the four language skills
  2. total test score of 0 to 120
  3. TOEFL CBT (computer based) score comparison
